Howard, retired financial adviser

Knowing my clients would experience continuity made stepping away easier

Why did you decide the time was right to sell your business?
I think age gives it away that it’s the right time to hang one’s boots up, for everybody, and that came around quite honestly.

How were you feeling at the start of the process of selling your business?
Well, I think that’s answered by a saying that we used to have: one doesn’t plan to fail, but you can fail to plan. So, it was going to be a natural process at some stage that there was going to be a handover.

What were the key things you were looking for in a potential buyer?
The ethos and ethics were vitally important in terms of any handover. We’ve known Tom and Alistair for many years, and therefore we understood where they were coming from, and they understood where I was coming from as well.

Why did you choose Monenti rather than a traditional consolidator?
One could have looked at a traditional consolidator, and there are many out there of course, but I didn’t feel comfortable with anything that was being offered.

How easy was it working with Alistair, Tom, and Monenti?
Having worked with them for many years meant that the administration and the handover was very straightforward, and they were using systems that we had in place prior, which meant, from a client point of view, it didn’t interrupt the flow of advice that was being given at that stage.

How did you feel after transitioning your business to Monenti?
I felt very comfortable in terms of the transition of my clients, and as with anyone in the same position, they’ve got to be comfortable that their own ethics and ethos mirrors where they are going, and from that point of view, I was very happy to know that my clients have ended up in the right home.

What’s been the best thing about transitioning to Monenti?
I feel comfortable that the clients are still in the right place, being dealt with appropriately and in the way that I would have hoped.

Would you recommend that other advisers who are looking to sell or retire consider Monenti as an option?
It would be easy for me to say yes, because I know them intimately, but if they are looking, and reflect the ethics and ethos that are required, then it would be a good home to look at, yes.
